The La Flor co-operativa consists of 23 Borucan artisans that have come together and work as a team to display market and sell their crafts. They also make beautiful intricate cedar and balsa wood masks, weaved bags and table runners. Additionally they make other artisan products such as: maracas from coconuts, drums from coconuts with cow hide skin and bows and arrows.
La Flor also has the responsibility of running the museum. They share the cost of running the museum which involves power, water and light. Then they have to rotate manning the museum 9am-4pm daily and taking care of the sales of the crafts. This has become quite a task for them because they have to organised the shifts of who will be manning it Marina Lazaro Morales is very involved since she lives directly next door, she is also one of the key members of the organization.
Magdalena is the secretary and she is also one of the core members and a very close friend of Marina's. There are 7 directors of the group including the president, secretary and the fiscal manager, they have been is association since 1983.
In the past 30 years the artisans have been collectively operating as a group and there are10 women who have been the core of operations during the last few years, this artisan work is in their blood and it is their culture. These people grew up here and have also raised their own families here.
They have a desire to get more books and maybe a college here some day so that they can keep the children here and they do not have to leave and go to school far away.
Marina Lazaro Morales -
Marina has always lived in Boruca she has raised many children here and now she is one of the key members of the La Flor co-operativa. Marina has been involved in commerce and weaving here in Boruca for 25 years. Marina is small in stature but she has large influence over her village and she is one of the leaders of the La Flor co-operativa.
